“Working with patients taught me to see healing in unexpected places. I started painting scripture verses as gifts for my church family in 2019, but the abstract backgrounds began taking over the canvases. Now those color fields tell their own stories.”

About Maren

Maren Hollis is a former occupational therapist based in Colorado Springs, Colorado, with a BFA from the University of Minnesota. Work with patients taught Hollis to notice healing in unlikely places. In 2019 the artist started painting scripture verses as gifts for fellow church members, until the abstract backgrounds slowly took over the canvases.

The result is an impressionist style with abstract color fields that carry their own meaning, set in browns and beiges. One canvas is in our shop: The Good Shepherd, a robed figure walking with a single sheep through diagonal sweeps of gold, amber and soft gray, as if light were breaking through. It is shown below, printed on matte canvas and stretched over solid wood.
