About the Artwork

Maren Hollis took a palette knife to one of the emptiest places on earth and found it full of texture. A white salt flat runs toward you in broad, ridged slabs, each one split from the next by thin raised seams of paint that read like the polygon cracks of dried brine. Patches of warm sand and ochre show through the white, and the whole floor of the painting catches light like real crust.

Far off, a thin line of low mountains sits in slate blue and dusty violet, small against a wide sky laid down in overlapping strokes of cream, pale blue and a single streak of golden ochre. This horizontal canvas wall art keeps almost everything quiet, so the thick impasto ridges do the talking.

It suits people who want calming wall art that still has grit to it: a founder who likes open space, a therapist setting a steady tone, or anyone building professional wall art that never feels stiff. The neutral palette of white, sand and slate leaves room for wood, leather and steel around it.

As large horizontal wall art, it fits well above a credenza, a long sofa or a conference table. It works as modern office wall art in a private office, as executive office wall art behind a desk, or as waiting room artwork where people need a calm place to rest their eyes. Each piece is printed from the original as canvas wall art that keeps the look of every knife stroke.

Working with patients taught me to see healing in unexpected places. I started painting scripture verses as gifts for my church family in 2019, but the abstract backgrounds began taking over the canvases. Now those color fields tell their own stories.
