About the Artwork

A gray wolf stands at the edge of a red-rock ledge, ears up, looking out across a deep canyon. Far below, a turquoise river winds between the cliffs, lined with small dark-green junipers, while the sky above breaks into bands of peach, pink and pale blue at sunset.

Graham Delaney built this wolf landscape painting with a palette knife, laying the paint on thick so every cliff face catches light in flat, layered strokes. The rock glows orange and violet, the water reads almost glassy, and the wolf's coat is carved in fine ridges of silver, tan and charcoal.

It's a good fit for anyone who loves the desert Southwest, long hikes in canyon country, or the quiet presence of a wolf keeping watch. It also makes a thoughtful gift for a wildlife lover who wants something warmer and more textured than a photograph.

As a large wolf canvas, it holds its own above a sofa, a bed or a stone fireplace, and its sunset palette pairs easily with leather, wood and earthy textiles. Hang this canvas wall art in a living room, den or cabin where the late-day light can bring out the texture.

After fifteen years fixing engines, I traded my wrench for brushes in 2017. The precision required for mechanical work translates surprisingly well to capturing light on canvas. My garage studio still smells faintly of motor oil.
