About the Artwork

Two tall grain silos rise over a small gable-roofed barn, their ribbed domes catching the last of the evening light. Bennett Hawthorne built this one with a palette knife, laying down thick ridges of slate gray, cream and warm ochre so the metal siding seems to shimmer as you walk past. Behind them, the sky breaks into bands of rose pink and pale butter yellow.

It's a barn painting that feels honest about farm life. The weathered boards, the low tin roof, the stubbled field in amber strokes. Nothing is fussy, and every swipe of paint stays visible, which gives the scene a sculpted, hand-made texture you can almost feel.

This piece suits anyone who grew up near open land, or anyone collecting rustic paintings and farmhouse paintings with real brushwork in them. It's a good gift for a parent who still talks about the old family place.

As canvas wall art, it works well above a sofa, a sideboard or a reading chair. The soft pinks and grays sit easily with whitewashed wood, linen and black iron, making it natural modern farmhouse wall art for a living room, entryway or kitchen wall that needs some countryside warmth.

After years mixing cocktails in Manhattan dive bars, I moved to the Blue Ridge Mountains in 2015. The morning fog rolling over these hills reminded me why I loved painting before life got complicated. Now I spend my days chasing that soft light through the seasons.
