About the Artwork

Four round hay bales sit scattered across a freshly cut field while the sun drops low on the horizon. Their shadows stretch long and blue across the stubble rows. Above, the sky breaks into slabs of pink, peach and cream, with a soft lavender haze over the distant tree line.

Bennett Hawthorne built this rural landscape painting with a palette knife, laying the paint on thick so every ridge catches the light. You can see the coiled straw in the nearest bale, the bristly stubble standing up in short strokes, and the sky set down in broad, flat swipes of color.

It suits anyone who grew up near open fields, or anyone who simply loves that last quiet hour of a harvest day. If you collect farmhouse paintings or want countryside wall art that feels calm rather than busy, this one fits right in.

As farmhouse canvas wall art, it works over a sofa as modern farmhouse wall art for living room spaces, above a dining sideboard, or in a bedroom with warm wood and linen. The golden tones and soft pinks pair easily with cream walls and natural textures.

After years mixing cocktails in Manhattan dive bars, I moved to the Blue Ridge Mountains in 2015. The morning fog rolling over these hills reminded me why I loved painting before life got complicated. Now I spend my days chasing that soft light through the seasons.
