About the Artwork

A heavy wave slams into a dark, angular rock, and the spray shoots straight up in thick, sweeping strokes of pale grey and bronze. Malcolm Tate built this one with a palette knife, so the water breaks into ridges and slabs you can almost feel, while the sky above sits low and charcoal, full of weather.

It's a textured semi-abstract piece. The rock is all hard planes of black, slate and rust, the sea churns in deep blue-grey, and near the bottom a few thin drips of paint run down the canvas like rain on a window. Up close it's raw paint. From across the room it's a storm on a rocky coast.
