About the Artwork

This golden retriever has found his song and he is not coming back anytime soon. Sloane Marlowe painted him with his eyes shut and chin lifted, chrome retro headphones clamped over those soft ears, the cord trailing down through a thick ruff of honey and amber fur. Every strand is drawn with care, from the pale whiskers to the shine on his wet brown nose.

Behind him, the wall comes alive. Bursts of teal, magenta, sunflower yellow and rust red are sprayed across raw gray concrete, then left to drip in long thin runs down the canvas. It's street-art energy with a portrait painter's patience, and the warm light on his face makes him glow against the cool backdrop.

Made for dog art fans who like their pets with a little personality, music lovers, and anyone who has ever shared a couch with a golden. It's a cheerful gift for a new dog owner or a nod to the retriever who already runs the house.

As canvas wall art, it brings color and a grin to a living room, a teen's bedroom, a home studio, or a hallway that needs some life. Hang it above a record player or a reading chair where the good tunes happen.

A rainy October afternoon in 2016 when I bought my first canvas at a garage sale changed my trajectory completely. I'd been cleaning teeth for years but couldn't shake the urge to create something moody and atmospheric.
