About the Artwork

A golden retriever stands mid-stride, mouth open in that easy, happy way, his coat built from thick palette-knife strokes of ochre, honey and cream. Malcolm Tate lets the fur break apart into ridges of paint, so you can almost see the knife moving across the canvas. Up close it reads as pure texture; step back and the dog is right there, warm and alert.

Around him, the background dissolves into sweeping bands of cream and warm grey, with drips and flakes of metallic gold leaf catching the light near his paws. It's an abstract dog painting that still honors the real animal, the soft ears, the dark eyes, the feathered tail lifted behind him.

Made for golden retriever owners, dog lovers and anyone who wants a pet portrait that feels like art rather than a snapshot. It also makes a thoughtful gift for someone who has loved and lost a goldie, or just brought one home.

This canvas wall art sits naturally in a living room with warm neutrals, above an entry console where the gold accents meet the morning light, or in a home office that could use a friendly face. It pairs well with wood tones, linen textures and brass finishes.

Working night shifts at the hospital for eight years taught me to see beauty in unexpected places. The fluorescent hallways and quiet moments between emergencies became my first subjects. Now I translate those memories of exhaustion and hope into abstract forms that feel both heavy and weightless.
