About the Artwork

Caleb Moretti painted this one on a still afternoon when the bay barely moved. A row of tall summer clouds stacks up over a thin line of shoreline trees, their tops lit cream and peach, their undersides shaded in lavender. Below, the water holds an almost perfect copy of them, broken only by small ripples and hints of green weed near the surface.

The brushwork is thick and easy to read up close. Short, buttery strokes build each cloud, and flatter horizontal passes lay down the water. It is calming wall art in the plain sense: lots of open sky, a low horizon, and a soft palette of powder blue, ivory and lilac that never gets loud.

This is for anyone who wants a piece that slows the room down. If you like a minimalist landscape wall art look but still want real texture and light, or you grew up near a lake or bay, this one tends to feel familiar right away.

The long, horizontal shape works well as above bed canvas art, especially as queen bed wall art or in a master bedroom canvas art setup where it can stretch across the headboard. It fits a zen bedroom wall art scheme with linen bedding and pale wood, and it reads just as well as lake landscape wall art in a reading nook or quiet living room. Printed as canvas wall art, the cloud texture comes through clearly.

A rainy Tuesday in 2015 when the library was unusually quiet, I sketched the light coming through the tall windows. That sketch sat on my desk for months before I finally bought paints to finish it properly.
