About the Artwork

This soft sky painting is all about one cloud. Gordon Fenwick built a big, billowing cumulus out of wide, layered brushstrokes in cream and pale blue, letting the paint sit thick at the bright tops and thin out toward the base. A faint blush of coral glows underneath, and loose wisps break from the edges and drift off into open sky.

Below it, the horizon is barely there, just a few silvery streaks of water fading into haze. It reads as an atmospheric landscape painting, but the handling stays loose and abstract, so the eye rests on texture and light more than detail. The blue and beige wall art palette keeps everything quiet and airy.

It suits anyone who wants calm wall art that still has some presence: people who like a pastel landscape painting, a clean japandi wall art look, or simply a piece that slows the room down a little.

As calming wall art for bedroom spaces, it works beautifully above a bed or dresser. The wide format makes it a natural horizontal canvas wall art choice for a sofa wall too, and it brings a gentle spa wall decor feel to a bathroom or reading corner. Printed as canvas wall art, the brush texture comes through softly in any light.

I work from a second floor studio in Ballard with a view of grey Puget Sound water. Years as a ferry deckhand gave me endless hours watching rain, mist and islands fade into one tone. On canvas I drag oil across in broad, soft passes, scrape back with a knife and let slate grey and warm cream drift together, with a small coral glow near the horizon.
