Blue and White Vase Painting With Peonies and Butterflies - Canvas Wall Art

This blue and white vase painting starts with a round-bellied porcelain jar and lets the peonies spill wide to one side, pink, rose, cream and one bright yellow bloom leaning toward a pair of swallowtail butterflies lifting off on the right. Dorian Haskell paints it all against a deep blue wall streaked with olive and coral, so the flowers glow like they're lit from inside.

It's a textured floral painting through and through. The vase pattern is slashed in with quick brushwork, the petals are built up in palette knife flower painting passages, and thin drips run down from the stems onto a scraped, striped tabletop. Up close it reads as loose and gestural; from across the room it settles into a classic bouquet.

For anyone who loves peony wall art but wants something with more energy than a tidy botanical study, this piece from our Heritage Botanical Bouquets collection sits right between tradition and a modern still life painting. It suits collectors of blue-and-white china, gardeners, and anyone drawn to dark floral wall art with real color in it.

As horizontal floral wall art, it fits nicely over a sofa, sideboard or dining buffet, and the navy ground pairs easily with wood, brass and white walls. Hang this floral canvas wall art in a living room, entry or reading nook where its botanical wall art warmth can be seen every day.
