“After years navigating the Chesapeake Bay, I traded salt air for studio light in 2016. The way morning fog rolls across water still shows up in every landscape I paint, just translated through brushstrokes instead of memory.”

About Selene

Selene Maddox once captained yachts on the Chesapeake Bay. The salt air gave way to studio light in 2016, but morning fog rolling over the water never faded from memory, and it surfaces in landscape after landscape. Maddox earned a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and works in Richmond, Virginia.

The approach is impressionist, with soft edges, wet reflections and warm light. Among the favorites are a red covered bridge in Lancaster County at peak foliage, Beale Street in Memphis shining after rain, the Atlanta Beltline at sunset and a foggy boulevard in Quebec City. Beige, blue and brick red set the palette. Find the artist’s most-loved canvases below, every one ready to hang.
