About the Artwork

One big stroke does all the talking here. Selene Maddox loaded her brush with sunset coral and golden ochre and pulled it down the canvas in a single S-curve, thick enough that you can see every ridge and drag of the paint. Dusky violet runs along its edges, and thin drips fall from each bend like the paint couldn't quite wait to dry.

Behind it sits a ground of deep teal and inky navy, scraped and scratched so the layers peek through. That contrast is what makes this gestural abstract painting feel so alive: warm color moving fast over cool, quiet depth. It reads as a textured abstract canvas even from across the room, and up close the layered abstract painting rewards a long look.

It's for people who like their walls with some energy and a little mess in the best way. If you lean toward expressive color over tidy geometry, and you want a piece that looks hand-made because it was, this one fits.

As abstract canvas wall art, the tall format works well beside a bookshelf, in an entry, or as abstract art above couch arrangements paired with a second piece. Sized up, it holds its own as large modern abstract wall art in a living room with neutral furniture and a few warm accents.

After years navigating the Chesapeake Bay, I traded salt air for studio light in 2016. The way morning fog rolls across water still shows up in every landscape I paint, just translated through brushstrokes instead of memory.

It looks amazing! The material creates the look of natural texture, even without raised detail.
