About the Artwork

This bowl of fruit painting by Selene Maddox piles everything high. Two speckled pears, a cluster of plump oranges, a bunch of violet grapes and a ripening banana fill a wide ceramic bowl, while one red and gold apple has rolled off to sit on its own at the edge of the table.

Selene paints in her Expressive Color style, with thick palette-knife strokes and loose drips running down the tablecloth. Coral, teal and plum streaks cut across a warm sand background, so the piece reads as contemporary still life art rather than a quiet traditional study. The oranges glow, and the pears carry flecks of pink and green you only catch up close.

It suits anyone who cooks with the radio on and likes a kitchen that feels lived in. If you've been looking for kitchen art prints with real brushwork and a bit of color, this one fits, and the citrus tones pair nicely with copper pans or wood counters.

Hang it above a breakfast nook, a sideboard or an open shelf. In a bigger size it works as large kitchen wall art over a dining table, and smaller sizes slip easily beside a window. Printed as canvas wall art, it brings warmth to kitchens, dining rooms and cozy cafe corners alike.

After years navigating the Chesapeake Bay, I traded salt air for studio light in 2016. The way morning fog rolls across water still shows up in every landscape I paint, just translated through brushstrokes instead of memory.
