“After years staring at screens cutting film footage, I needed something tactile. Started with collages in my Brooklyn apartment in 2016, tearing up old magazines and newspapers. Now I layer paint over found materials, creating symbols that mean something different to everyone who sees them.”

About Fiona

After years editing documentaries on a screen, Fiona Callahan wanted work that could be touched. It began in 2016 with collages made from torn magazines and newspapers in a Brooklyn apartment. Callahan holds an MFA from Hunter College and now works in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Abstract and symbolic, the work is built from shapes each viewer can read differently. Overlapping circles in chocolate and mustard, silver ribbons edged in gold, a lone tree with golden leaves and a dark vortex around a glowing center are among the favorites. Calm greys and deep blues run through the collection. Callahan’s most popular canvases follow below, ready for your wall.
