About the Artwork

This orchid canvas painting by Fiona Callahan catches a single arching spray of blush phalaenopsis blooms mid-reach. Each petal is rimmed with a thin line of gold leaf, and the throats glow in honey and amber. Three tight buds hang at the end of the stem, still waiting their turn.

Behind the flowers, Fiona built the background with a palette knife in long vertical pulls of ivory, teal and dusty plum, letting thin gold drips run down toward the dark broad leaves at the base. The texture reads clearly up close, ridged and cracked like plaster, so the piece works as a neutral abstract painting as much as a botanical one.

It suits anyone who loves orchids but wants something softer and more lived-in than a crisp photo print. If you are pulling together a quiet, warm space with natural tones and a bit of shine, this one fits right in.

As spa bathroom wall art it hangs beautifully above a freestanding tub or a vanity with brass fixtures, where the gold leaf picks up the light. It also works in a calm bedroom or entry. This gold bathroom wall art is printed as canvas wall art so the brushwork and metallic accents keep their depth.

After years staring at screens cutting film footage, I needed something tactile. Started with collages in my Brooklyn apartment in 2016, tearing up old magazines and newspapers. Now I layer paint over found materials, creating symbols that mean something different to everyone who sees them.
