“A week-long canoe trip through the Boundary Waters in 2009 taught me to see water differently. The way morning light hit the lake surface became an obsession I'm still chasing in every painting.”

About Emory

A week-long canoe trip through the Boundary Waters in 2009 changed the way Emory Thatcher looks at water. Morning light on the surface of a lake has stayed a fixation ever since. Thatcher, a former substitute teacher with a BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art, now paints in Columbus, Ohio.

Watercolor and expressionism meet in the work, with skies melting from coral to purple. Seattle’s Space Needle stands before a snow-capped Mount Rainier, a bull elk waits in golden grass beneath the Tetons, Gros Morne glows at sunset and Montmorency Falls spills past wildflowers. The prints below are the artist’s top sellers in our shop, each stretched over solid wood.
