About the Artwork

Emory Thatcher built these waves with a palette knife and a lot of paint. Long slabs of cobalt, sky blue and mist white sweep from left to right, curling up into crests that break into ridged white foam. You can see every pass of the blade, the paint standing up off the surface like real spray.

Look closely in one trough and you'll find a single thin seam of burnt orange, like late sun caught under the water. It's a small detail, but it warms the whole piece.
