About the Artwork

Three vinyl records fan out in a loose, tilted stack, and the top one catches a sweep of light right across its grooves. Selene Maddox painted the grooves in thick ridged strokes of black and silver, then let streaks of hot pink, mustard and sky blue slide over them. The centre labels stay plain: two in burnt orange, one in olive green.

Behind the records, the cream ground is scraped and dripping with orange, magenta and yellow, the kind of loose, layered paint that makes this vinyl records painting feel like a record shop wall in 1975. It is funky wall art with real texture, and it reads just as well from across the room as up close.

It suits the collector with a crate of LPs, the friend who still flips sides on a Saturday night, or anyone building an eclectic wall art mix of music, color and a little nostalgia. If you like retro canvas prints that look hand-painted rather than printed flat, this one fits right in.

Hang this canvas wall art above a turntable console, beside the bar cart, or in a game room where the stereo is always on. Its cream base keeps it easy to pair, while the pink and orange give a colorful canvas painting the punch a plain wall needs.

After years navigating the Chesapeake Bay, I traded salt air for studio light in 2016. The way morning fog rolls across water still shows up in every landscape I paint, just translated through brushstrokes instead of memory.
