About the Artwork

Giulia Amato stacks a whole Tuscan village up the side of a hill and paints every house a different color. Hot pink walls sit next to sunflower yellow, a deep cobalt facade leans against tangerine orange, and the terracotta roofs step down the slope like a staircase. Tall black-green cypresses shoot up between them against a clear, flat blue sky.

This piece of tuscan art is painted in flat, confident blocks of color with just enough brushwork to keep it lively. The shutters are little rectangles of blue, green and plum, the gardens at the bottom are loose strokes of olive and sage dotted with tiny flowers. It reads more like a happy memory of Italy than a postcard.

It's for anyone who came home from Tuscany wanting to keep that summer light around, or who simply loves color that isn't shy. It also makes a thoughtful gift for a friend planning that trip one day.

Hang this canvas wall art where a room needs a lift: above a sofa, in a breakfast nook, or at the end of a hallway. It pairs easily with white walls, warm woods and rattan, and it holds its own next to bright textiles.

For ten years I painted lemons and fishing boats on majolica tiles in a workshop above the beach in Vietri. The glazes taught me to trust flat, fearless colour. Now I paint the towns of the coast the same way: pink houses, lemon trees and that impossible blue, brushed fast in gouache and acrylic.

It looks amazing!

It looks amazing! The material creates the look of natural texture, even without raised detail.
