Artist
Giulia Amato
“For ten years I painted lemons and fishing boats on majolica tiles in a workshop above the beach in Vietri. The glazes taught me to trust flat, fearless colour. Now I paint the towns of the coast the same way: pink houses, lemon trees and that impossible blue, brushed fast in gouache and acrylic.”
About Giulia
Giulia Amato is a painter from Vietri sul Mare, the ceramics town at the start of Italy’s Amalfi Coast. After studying at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Napoli, she spent ten years as a majolica tile painter in a workshop above the beach, brushing lemons and fishing boats onto glazed tiles. That work taught her to trust flat, fearless color: bold hues set side by side, with no hesitation and no muddy blending.
Today she paints the towns of the coast the same way, working quickly in gouache and acrylic on canvas. Pink houses stacked up the cliffs, lemon trees heavy with fruit, and that impossible Mediterranean blue fill her expressionist, modern scenes with sunshine and movement. Her canvases bring warmth to a kitchen or dining room, lift a living room or entryway, and add a vacation mood to a bedroom or sunroom. Below are Amato’s canvases in our shop, ready to hang.
