About the Artwork

A tall dune face climbs from the lower left to a knife-sharp crest, and Maren Hollis built every inch of it with a palette knife. The sunlit side is laid down in thick ridged slabs of sand, honey and ivory, each stroke carved like a wind ripple. Across the crest, the shadowed slope drops away in deeper bands of tan, rust and cocoa brown.

Above it all sits a quiet sky of pale blue-gray and cream, pulled across the canvas in flat, cracked passes of paint. The contrast between that calm sky and the heavy, sculpted sand gives this beige abstract wall art its weight. Up close it reads as pure texture; from across the room it becomes a desert ridge in late light.

This piece suits anyone drawn to textured abstract wall art that still holds onto a real place. If you love warm earth tones, desert travel or simply the look of thick paint catching light, it gives you all of that without shouting.

Hang it as neutral living room wall art above a linen sofa, or let its vertical climb fill a narrow wall in an entry or hallway. It also works as neutral wall art for dining room spaces with wood tables and woven chairs. Printed as canvas wall art, it brings the depth of the original strokes home.

Working with patients taught me to see healing in unexpected places. I started painting scripture verses as gifts for my church family in 2019, but the abstract backgrounds began taking over the canvases. Now those color fields tell their own stories.
