About the Artwork

This tavern painting keeps things simple: one lidded pewter tankard on a heavy plank table, a low fire burning in the stone hearth behind it. Carter Ellison built the whole scene with a palette knife, laying down thick ridges of paint so the metal catches light in silver slabs and the flames flicker in amber and ochre.

Look closely and you'll see every stone in the fireplace is its own chunky stroke of sage, cream and tan. The table runs in long streaks of chestnut brown with flashes of gold, as if it's been polished by a hundred years of elbows. It feels quiet, warm and a little bit old world.
