About the Artwork

This one is all about the chair waiting for you. Martin Ridgeway painted a plump armchair in cream and olive stripes, set in the corner of a quiet room with a slim brass floor lamp leaning over the seat. The wall behind is built from loose, soft dabs of putty, pale blue and buttery yellow where the lamplight lands, and the wood floor runs warm and honey-toned under short, quick strokes.

It reads as a sofa wall art piece with a gentle, lived-in feel, part of our Painted Sofas and Armchairs series. The striped upholstery is laid down in thick, confident bands of paint, and you can see every brush mark in the cushion and the rolled arms. It's a sofa painting that feels like an empty seat saved just for you.

If you love a slow evening with a novel, a cup of tea and a good lamp, this is book lover wall art that gets it. It suits anyone drawn to hygge decor, warm neutrals and the comfort of a well-loved corner, and the olive stripes make it a quiet pick for olive green wall art fans.

Hang this canvas wall art in a reading nook, a bedroom, or as living room wall art over the couch, where the soft cream and brass tones sit easily with linen, wood and natural textures.

What makes me stop and look at a scene is how wind, cloth and water move together. Nearly twenty years of sailmaking made that plain. My studio sits a short walk from Siesta Key, where the Gulf haze rarely lifts before noon. I work in thin layers with a soft brush and a little knife. Quiet whites, pale aqua, driftwood tones.
