Martin Ridgeway
“I paint in a small studio a short walk from Siesta Key, where the Gulf light is soft and the haze rarely lifts before noon. Cutting and stitching sails for nearly twenty years taught me how wind, cloth and water move together. I work in light layers with a soft brush and a little knife work, keeping sand, sea and sky in quiet whites, pale aqua and driftwood tones.”
About Martin
Martin Ridgeway paints in a small studio in Sarasota, Florida, a short walk from Siesta Key, where the Gulf light stays soft and the morning haze rarely lifts before noon. Before he turned to painting full time, he spent nearly twenty years cutting and stitching sails. That work taught him how wind, cloth and water move together, and you can feel that understanding in the easy drift of his shorelines and skies. He holds a BA in Fine Arts from the University of South Florida.
Working in oil on canvas, Martin builds his scenes in light, thin layers with soft brushes and a little work from a small painting knife. His style sits between Impressionism and Minimalism: sand, sea and sky reduced to quiet whites, pale aqua and driftwood tones, with just enough texture to catch the light. These calm, airy canvases feel at home in bedrooms, living rooms, sunlit hallways and beach houses, anywhere you want a room to breathe a little. Below are Ridgeway’s canvases in our shop, ready to hang.
