About the Artwork

Santa has stopped for a moment. He sits on his full burlap sack in the middle of an open snowfield, elbows on his knees, gloved hands loosely together, looking calmly out across the empty white. There is no sleigh and no rush, just a quiet break before the long night ahead. It is modern christmas wall art with an old world Santa art soul.

Ellis Whitmore painted this with a palette knife, laying the color on thick so every stroke catches the light. The sky is built from slabs of golden ochre and soft lavender, the snow from ridges of cream with flashes of pale blue and aqua. His red coat and white fur trim are sculpted in heavy impasto, and his beard looks almost carved. Up close you can see each flat cut of paint.

This is for anyone who loves a Father Christmas wall art piece that feels thoughtful rather than busy. It works as a Santa Claus art print for collectors of painterly holiday work, and it is a warm choice for people who want winter wall art that can stay up a little past December.

Hang this canvas wall art above a sofa as Christmas wall art for living room spaces, over an entry console, or in a reading nook beside the tree. The red and cream play nicely with natural wood, greenery, and soft lamplight, and the gold sky warms up a room on short winter afternoons.

Working with hospice patients for eight years taught me about finding peace in difficult moments. I started painting biblical scenes as a way to process what I witnessed daily. The transition from caring for souls to capturing spiritual light felt natural.
