About the Artwork

This rome painting starts with the sky. A wide wash of sunny yellow fills the top, with a pale round sun and the word Rome lettered by hand in dark blue over a patch of red. Below it, a grey dome rises above stacked rooftops in coral, pink, cream and soft grey.

Giulia Amato painted the city loosely, with quick brushstrokes, thin black drips and windows that are just dark dabs. In the front, orange and red flowers open up between long dark green leaves and a few palm fronds, so the whole scene feels like looking at Rome through a summer garden.
