About the Artwork

An empty oxblood leather wingback chair waits in front of a wall of books, a folded cream throw slung over one rolled arm. Reid Ashford built it all with a palette knife, so the leather breaks into slabs of maroon, rust and amber that catch the light like a well-worn hide. Brass nailhead trim runs along every edge, and the turned wooden legs throw a cool green shadow across the floor.

The shelves behind are just as alive, with book spines laid down in quick strokes of forest green, deep red, mustard and navy. The thick impasto ridges give the whole scene a texture you can almost feel from across the room, and the empty seat leaves space to imagine settling in with something good to read.

This piece of reading room decor is for the person who keeps a stack of books by the bed and dreams of a proper armchair corner. It suits book lovers, library fans and anyone drawn to warm, classic interiors painted with a modern hand.

Hang this canvas wall art above a reading chair, in a home office or beside a bookcase in the den. It also works as living room canvas wall art next to leather, dark wood and brass, where its rich browns and greens bring a cozy, lived-in glow.

After five years pushing papers at an insurance company, I took a weekend painting class in 2016 that completely redirected my life. The instructor showed us how Monet built light with broken color, and I knew I had to learn that language. Now I spend my days chasing New England's shifting seasons with my easel.
