About the Artwork

Colette Mercer built this snowy mountain wall art almost entirely with a palette knife. A jagged ridge of peaks climbs across the canvas, each slope laid down in thick, flat strokes of white that catch the light like packed snow. Dark rock shows through in sharp seams, and a heavy gray sky churns overhead.

Below the summits, a band of low cloud fills the valley, with thin drips of paint falling into rows of dark firs. The trees stand in crisp black silhouettes on the slopes, giving this winter scene painting real depth from the foreground hills to the far range. Kept to black, white and every gray between, it reads quiet and dramatic at once.

It suits anyone who loves high country, ski trips, or the hush of a cold morning in the mountains. If you collect winter landscape prints or want something calm but bold without color competing in the room, this one earns its place.

As winter wall art for living room spaces, it looks strong above a sofa or fireplace, and it works just as well in an entry, office or cabin bedroom. Choose a big size for large winter canvas wall art that anchors a wall, and the monochrome palette will sit easily with wood, stone, black metal or white walls. It's ready-to-hang canvas wall art painted by our own artists.

After fifteen years reading teleprompters, I needed something real to focus on. My neighbor's cat would sit perfectly still in afternoon light, and I started sketching her during lunch breaks. Now I spend mornings painting animals before the world wakes up.
