About the Artwork

This pastel beach painting by Tahlia Emerson follows a long pale sandbar as it curls out to sea, holding a shallow seafoam lagoon on one side and the open water on the other. Above it, a soft morning sky drifts in lavender, peach and blush. Tufts of sage grass lean on a low rise of sand in the front, catching the early light.

Tahlia paints in a soft contemporary impressionist way. The sand is built up in thick, creamy strokes you can almost feel, while the water is laid in with smoother, cooler passes and thin white lines of surf.
