About the Artwork

Elias Montoya painted this coastal bluff on a windy day, and you can feel it. Red poppies and white ox-eye daisies crowd the slope, with a few blue lupine spikes tucked in. Every stem and dab of color leans the same way, rushing toward the edge where the land drops to a hazy turquoise sea and a soft, cloud-streaked sky.

The brushwork is loose and thick, so it reads as a textured floral painting even from across the room. The poppy petals are laid down in a few quick strokes of orange-red, the daisies in creamy white with butter-yellow centers, and the grass is a mix of green, gold and straw. It's wildflower meadow painting with real movement in it.

This over the couch wall art suits anyone who loves the coast, summer walks along the cliffs, or simply poppy canvas art with a little open air around it. It's cheerful without being loud, and the sea keeps the whole scene calm.

The wide format fills the space above a sofa, and it works just as well as dining room wall art or above bed wall art in a bedroom with light linens. Pair this wildflower wall art with natural wood, white walls or soft blue accents to let the colors carry the room. Printed as canvas wall art from an original by our painter.

My father's construction crew worked on old haciendas around San Antonio when I was a kid. Those crumbling walls and faded colors stuck with me through twenty years of laying tile. Now I chase that same weathered beauty on canvas.
