About the Artwork

This desert horizon painting by Maren Hollis is built from thick, knife-pulled layers of sand, ochre and burnt orange that stack toward a distant line of misty blue-grey. Right at the centre, a pale ivory glow lifts off the horizon, like the moment just before the sun clears the edge of the land.

Maren works in palette knife impasto, so every band carries ridges, scrapes and soft cracks where the paint was pressed and dragged. Even as a print, the surface reads as textured abstract wall art, with the light catching the edges of each stroke.

It suits anyone who loves open country and quiet mornings but wants something looser than a photograph. As abstract landscape wall art, it gives you the feeling of the desert without spelling out every dune, and the warm, earthy palette makes it easy neutral abstract wall art to live with.

The wide format makes it a natural piece of long horizontal wall art above a sofa, a console or a sideboard, and it works well as large wall art for dining room walls where you want warmth without loud colour. This canvas wall art is reproduced from an original abstract painting, keeping the depth of every layer intact.

Working with patients taught me to see healing in unexpected places. I started painting scripture verses as gifts for my church family in 2019, but the abstract backgrounds began taking over the canvases. Now those color fields tell their own stories.
