About the Artwork

Maren Hollis gathered an armful of Queen Anne's lace and meadow grasses and let it spill loosely from a white ironstone pitcher. The flower heads are built up in small, raised dabs of cream paint, and the thin green stems fan out in every direction, the way wildflowers do when nobody fusses with them.

Everything here is laid on with a palette knife. You can see the flat, crackled strokes across the pitcher, the patchy sand and soft blue wall behind it, and the worn plank tabletop streaked in honey brown. It has the texture of a real worn table and the quiet light of a late summer afternoon.
