About the Artwork

This piece of matisse wall art keeps things simple and lets one shape do the talking. Scott Harmon painted a single large leaf with deep rounded lobes in flat cobalt blue, its edges crisp as if snipped from paper with scissors. A pale cream vein runs up the middle, and the leaf stands upright on a slender stem.

Down at the base, a thin black line sketches the ground, and a small vermilion crescent sits tucked beside the stem. You can still see the brushwork in the blue and the soft, scraped texture of the cream background, so it reads as a painting, not a flat graphic.

It's for anyone who loves the cut-out era and mid century modern wall art, or who wants something calm with a little wit. The bold blue and warm cream pair easily with wood, linen and plants, and it sits comfortably next to Scandinavian wall art.

As canvas wall art, it works well above a sofa, in a hallway, or as dining room abstract art where a tall shape fills the wall nicely. Its upright format makes it a natural choice when you need vertical abstract wall art for a narrow spot.

My studio is a carport I closed in behind our house in Tucson. I spent twelve years painting signs for diners and motels, and that work taught me how a few clean shapes can carry a whole idea. Now I paint desert ranch houses, cactus forms and atomic starbursts in dusty olive and soft mustard, keeping the brush texture so nothing looks printed.
