About the Artwork

The cat has claimed the good chair, and nobody is going to argue. Travis Callahan painted a black cat curled tight on the seat of a deep-green velvet lounge chair, eyes shut, paws tucked, while a martini with two olives sits untouched on the wide wooden arm. It's a quiet little scene that says the evening is going just fine.

Every surface is built with a palette knife. The velvet breaks into slabs of forest and moss green with pale sage highlights, the cat's fur shows warm brown sheen in the black, and the wall behind glows in cream and tan blocks. Up close you can see the ridges of paint. Step back and it reads as soft, low lamplight.

This is lounge wall art for people who like their dark moody wall art with a sense of humor. Cat owners will see their own couch thief in it, and anyone who loves a martini painting will appreciate the olive pick catching the light. It works as black cat wall art and as a cocktail canvas at the same time.

Hang this canvas wall art above a bar cart, beside a reading chair, or in a den with leather and wood. It suits a speakeasy wall art corner, a home bar, or a cozy living room where the best seat is always taken.

After calling games for minor league baseball in Texas, I started sketching players between innings. Those quick gesture drawings of athletes in motion became the foundation for everything I paint now.
