About the Artwork

A lioness rests in a calm sphinx pose, front paws stretched out long, her gaze turned off to the left. Tucked between those big paws, her small spotted cub sleeps curled up with its eyes shut tight. She isn't fussing over it. She's simply there, steady and watchful.

Ellis Whitmore built this lioness and cub painting with a palette knife, laying thick ridges of paint for the fur, the sandy ground, and a sky of cream and soft aqua. Look closely and you'll find flecks of violet, blue, and coral tucked into the shadows and grass, which keeps the warm tans from going flat.

It's a quiet pick for parents who want hand painted nursery art that feels gentle rather than cartoonish, and it makes a thoughtful gift for a baby shower or a new mom who loves wild animals.

As nursery canvas wall art, it sits nicely above a crib or changing table, and the sandy, sky-blue palette also suits a playroom, a reading corner, or a living room with a safari theme.

Working with hospice patients for eight years taught me about finding peace in difficult moments. I started painting biblical scenes as a way to process what I witnessed daily. The transition from caring for souls to capturing spiritual light felt natural.
