About the Artwork

Rowan Keaton painted these dunes with nothing but a palette knife and thick paste. Each crest is a single sharp ridge, curving diagonally across the canvas, stacked one behind the other in sand, cream and warm gray. There is no sky, no sun, no horizon, just the folds themselves, loosely readable as dunes and melting into plaster-like texture at the edges.

Up close it reads like a palette knife abstract painting, all raised lips of paint and dragged streaks. Step back and the landscape comes together. The printed surface keeps that 3d textured wall art look, so the ridges catch light the way the original did.

It suits anyone drawn to wabi sabi wall art and quiet, earthy rooms, people who want calm without going plain. The beige and gray palette sits easily with linen, oak, stone and matte black, which makes it a natural fit for japandi wall art schemes.

As large wall art for living room spaces, it works well as wall art above sofa or console, and it is just as comfortable as above bed wall art in a soft, neutral bedroom. This canvas wall art brings movement to a wall while keeping the mood still.

After my discharge in 2022, I moved back home and wandered into a Saturday painting class at the community center. The instructor, an older guy named Frank, showed me how color could express what words couldn't. Now I spend most nights in my garage studio working through layers of paint and memory.
