Tahlia Emerson painted these spring hills the way they feel on a mild afternoon. Long green slopes overlap one after another until they fade into a lavender horizon, and a single rounded oak sits on the farthest crest, catching the light. Peach-edged clouds drift across a pale blue sky.

Up close, the near meadow is all quick, loose strokes. Blush, coral and white wildflowers are dabbed in among sage grass, with soft streaks of violet running along the hillsides. It is soft contemporary impressionism, painterly and calm, with enough detail to read the land and enough looseness to keep it gentle.
