About the Artwork

Esteban Olivares painted this woman holding boat pose, balanced on her sit bones with both legs lifted straight and her arms reaching forward, level with the floor. Her body makes a strong V, and every part of it is built from thick, ridged slabs laid down with a palette knife. Eyes closed, hair pulled into a loose bun, she looks completely settled in the effort.

The background is a field of cream, sand and soft sage, scraped on in broad overlapping patches so the light seems to shift across the wall behind her. Beneath her, the mat is one wide pull of clay orange, which makes this a quiet piece of terracotta wall art without shouting about it. Up close, the ridges and knife edges catch the light, so this reads as true textured canvas wall art rather than a flat yoga poster.

It suits anyone who practices at home, teaches a class, or simply likes a calm, feminine figure study on the wall. The palette leans earth tone and beige, easy to pair with natural wood, linen and plants, and it sits comfortably in a Japandi room.

Hang this home gym wall art above a rack of weights or a rolled-out mat, in a stretching corner, or in a spa-like bathroom or bedroom where you want a peaceful reminder to slow down and hold steady.

My studio is a narrow room above a bakery in Triana, Seville, and the smell of bread starts my day. Restoring old ceramic tiles taught me patience and how colour sits in clean planes. With a palette knife I lay whitewashed walls, orange trees and quiet patios in thick slabs, warm stone against cool shade, and I leave the scrape marks visible.
