About the Artwork

A tiny hedgehog has the whole tub to itself. Only its pointed nose, dark eyes and a back full of spines stick up above the teal water, with little rings of ripples circling out as it paddles along. Natalie Rossi painted the spines in streaks of red, navy and gold, so the smallest swimmer in the room is also the brightest thing in it.

This hedgehog painting is done in a loose contemporary pop art style. The clawfoot tub is laid in with thick cream strokes smudged with pink, orange and blue, the brass faucet and claw feet shine gold, and the periwinkle wall behind is scratched with quick marks of yellow and coral. It reads clearly from across a room and rewards a closer look.

It suits anyone who likes a bathroom with a sense of humor, hedgehog fans, and people who want color without anything too serious on the walls. As canvas wall art it brings a playful painted texture that a framed print can't quite match.

Hang it over the tub or beside the mirror as bathroom wall decor with some personality. It works as bathroom canvas wall art in a colorful space, as modern bathroom wall art next to clean white tile, or as powder room wall art that gives guests something to smile about.

Teaching teenagers in Rome for eight years taught me patience, but painting taught me freedom. I started seriously after a sabbatical in Tuscany, where morning light through olive groves made me understand why the impressionists chased shadows across fields.
