About the Artwork

A tiny gazelle fawn lies flat against the ground, legs folded neatly beneath it, neck stretched low and ears tipped back, doing exactly what fawns do when they wait for their mother. Paola Medina painted it in warm tan and cream, with a dark stripe along its side and a few spare blades of grass rising behind it.

This gazelle fawn painting leaves most of the canvas open. Wide, chalky strokes of ivory and sand fill the sky, and the ground is brushed in with loose patches of taupe and gray. The knife marks and textured paint give the quiet scene a soft, handmade feel, and that calm gaze looks straight out at you.

It's hand painted nursery art for parents who want a safari theme without the bright cartoon colors. The gentle palette works for a baby boy or girl, and the little hiding fawn grows easily with a child from crib to big kid room.

Hang this nursery canvas wall art above a crib, a changing table or a reading chair. It pairs well with natural wood, linen and rattan, and it sits just as comfortably in a neutral living room or a calm bedroom corner.

My studio is a small room with high ceilings in the Colonia Americana neighborhood of Guadalajara. Teaching yoga for years taught me about breath, balance and the beauty of slowing down. I mix acrylic with fine marble dust for a soft, chalky surface, then paint one arch, a circle or a low horizon in warm sand and bone tones, leaving the rest open and calm.
