About the Artwork

Santa has set his sack down in the snow and stopped to look out over the lake. The water is still and dark teal, and a low amber glow sits right on the horizon, its reflection breaking into thick orange dabs that run toward the shore. Sloane Whitaker built the whole scene with a palette knife, so the snow, the red coat and the sky all carry ridges of paint you can almost feel.

This framed santa print leans toward old world santa art: a long fur-trimmed robe, a full white beard, worn boots and a burlap sack. It's quiet rather than busy. No sleigh, no crowd, just Father Christmas taking a moment before the night's work begins.

It suits anyone who likes their holiday wall art a little more thoughtful, with real painterly texture instead of cartoon cheer. The deep blues and teals also keep it working as winter wall art well past December, which makes it a good pick for collectors of Santa imagery and for families who decorate early and leave things up late.

Hang this canvas wall art above a fireplace, a sofa or an entry console, where the warm horizon line can catch the eye. It pairs easily with wood, cream textiles and brass, and it holds its own as one of your Christmas wall art for living room choices among garland and candlelight.

Working nights at downtown hotels, I'd sketch the stray cats that gathered by the loading dock during my breaks. Those rough drawings became my first real paintings when I finally had time during the day.
