About the Artwork

This desert painting by Anouk Delmas catches Monument Valley in the first quiet light of morning. The two Mitten buttes stand up front, with broad Merrick Butte settled a little farther back, all rising from a wide, still valley floor under a sky washed in soft pink and lavender.

Anouk builds the rock towers from loose, broken strokes of pale apricot and blush, then lays their shaded sides in muted slate and dusty lavender. The sandy plain is only suggested, a few broad sweeps of oatmeal with tufts of sage scrub, so the eye drifts easily back toward the buttes.
