About the Artwork

This little red fox has tucked itself into a tight circle for a nap, bushy white-tipped tail wrapped right up to its nose. Scott Harmon painted the fur in short, visible strokes of rust, tan and cream, so you can almost feel how soft it is. Beside it, three slender grass stems rise with olive seed heads, and a mustard sun hangs in a cream sky crossed by sweeps of powder blue and blush pink.

Part of our Painted ABC Animals collection, this is one of those cute animal canvas prints that feels calm rather than busy. The mid-century painted style keeps the shapes simple and the palette gentle, with a flat sage ground and plenty of open space around the sleeping fox.

It makes a sweet piece of canvas wall art for anyone building a cozy woodland theme. As fox nursery wall art it suits a baby's room, and its warm, earthy tones work well as gender neutral nursery art. Pair it with other prints from the series to create a nursery wall art set.

Hang it above a crib, a reading nook, or a toy shelf. It fits right in with woodland animal nursery art, adds a quiet note to playroom wall art, and sits comfortably next to pastel nursery wall art in soft blues and pinks.

My one rule: brush marks stay visible, so nothing looks printed. Twelve years of painting signs for diners and motels proved a few clean shapes can carry an idea. In a carport I closed in behind our house in Tucson, desert ranch houses, cactus forms and atomic starbursts take shape. Most wear dusty olive and soft mustard.
