About the Artwork

He's had a long day, and the bar is the only place that makes sense right now. Liam Novak paints a lone man in a wide-brimmed hat, hunched on a wooden stool, one hand wrapped around a short glass of amber. We see him from behind and a little to the side, so his face stays mostly in shadow under the brim.

This is cubism wall art done with loose, confident knife work. The whole room breaks into angular planes of hot pink, golden ochre, teal and deep black, and the paint drips right down the front of the bar counter. Shelves of bottles glow along the right edge, catching the same broken light as his coat.

It's a natural fit for anyone who loves speakeasy wall art with some real feeling behind it, or who wants whiskey wall art that tells a quiet story instead of just showing a bottle. Collectors of dark moody wall art with a jolt of color will like how the bright blocks keep the scene from going grim.

Hang this canvas wall art above a home bar, beside a bar cart, or as the centerpiece of a man cave or den. It works in a whiskey room decor setup with leather and dark wood, and it holds its own just as well in an eclectic living room with warm lighting.

Working with fabrics and textures for fifteen years taught me to see color differently. When I moved back to Prague in 2019, the light hitting the old buildings reminded me why I loved drawing as a kid. Now I spend my mornings in Wenceslas Square sketching before heading to my studio.
