About the Artwork

This Christmas wreath painting keeps things simple: one full evergreen wreath, one big cranberry-red velvet bow, and a deep, dark wall behind them. Travis Callahan built the fir needles with quick palette knife strokes, each one catching a little light, while the bow folds and shines like real velvet.

The background is where the palette knife really shows. Thick, scraped layers of forest green and near-black, with small cracks and ridges in the impasto, give the wall a worn, lived-in feel. It reads as a quiet Christmas still life painting, more old farmhouse door than shopping mall display.

It suits anyone who likes their holiday wall art calm and classic, and anyone collecting Christmas art prints that will look just as good in year five as in year one. Fans of rustic Christmas wall art will feel right at home with the muted greens and that single note of red.

The tall format makes it easy vertical Christmas wall art for an entryway, a narrow spot beside the fireplace, or above a console table. As Christmas canvas wall art, it brings the texture of a Christmas painting on canvas to a dining room or a cozy reading corner every December.

After calling games for minor league baseball in Texas, I started sketching players between innings. Those quick gesture drawings of athletes in motion became the foundation for everything I paint now.
