About the Artwork

This christmas tree painting canvas catches Santa in the quiet minutes after the work is done. He has sunk into a high-backed olive armchair, eyes closed, hands folded over his black belt and brass buckle. Beside him stands a tall fir hung with nothing but small amber lights, each one a dab of warm color against the dark green needles.

Ellis Whitmore built the whole scene with a palette knife, laying the paint on thick. The white fur trim stands up in ridges, the red coat has a heavy, velvety texture, and the gray and cream wall behind him breaks into wide, cracked slabs of color. It reads like a vintage santa painting, with the hand of the painter showing in every stroke.

It suits anyone who loves a gentler, homier side of Father Christmas, the kind of father christmas painting that feels more like a Christmas Eve memory than a holiday card. Collectors of christmas art prints with real texture and a muted, old world palette will find a lot to look at here.

Hang this christmas canvas wall art above a reading chair, by the fireplace, or in an entryway where guests come in from the cold. It works as vintage christmas wall art alongside wood, brass and plaid, and it brings a soft glow to a room once the tree goes up.

Working with hospice patients for eight years taught me about finding peace in difficult moments. I started painting biblical scenes as a way to process what I witnessed daily. The transition from caring for souls to capturing spiritual light felt natural.
