About the Artwork

This christmas sleigh painting by Brynn Ellery puts a wooden sleigh in fresh snow, its curled runners trimmed in gold and its seat piled with red, green and cream presents tied in golden bows. A red plaid wool blanket hangs over the side, fringe and all. Nobody is around, so it feels like the sleigh is waiting for someone to step out of the pines.

Brynn worked it in palette knife impasto, and you can see every pass of the blade. The snow is built from thick ridges of cream, ivory and soft blue shadow, while the snowy fir boughs behind are laid in with quick, heavy strokes. It reads as a christmas still life painting set outdoors, warm wood against cold light.

It suits anyone who loves an old-fashioned holiday, the kind with wool blankets, wrapped boxes and a walk through the woods. As christmas canvas prints go, this one leans cozy and traditional rather than flashy, and it makes an easy gift for a parent or grandparent who decorates every December.

Hang this canvas wall art above a mantel, in an entryway or over a sideboard set with candles and greenery. It works well as rustic christmas wall art in a cabin or farmhouse-style room, and the wide horizontal shape fits nicely over a sofa or buffet.

Working with flowers for fifteen years taught me about color in ways art school never could. When I finally switched to painting full-time in 2002, I brought that understanding of how colors breathe together into every brushstroke.

It looks amazing! The material creates the look of natural texture, even without raised detail.
