About the Artwork

Two kids sit cross-legged on the floor of a school library aisle, shoulder to shoulder, each lost in the open book on their lap. Tall shelves rise on both sides, packed with book spines in teal, mustard, purple, red and green, leading your eye down to a bright window at the far end.

Mateo Callahan painted this in his Expressive Color style, with thick, choppy strokes that break the kids' clothes, skin and the wooden floor into patches of blue, ochre and violet. Drips of paint run down from the shelves, so the whole scene feels loose and alive while the quiet focus of the two readers holds it together. It's children's library wall art that celebrates the simple joy of getting absorbed in a story.

This piece suits parents, teachers and school librarians who want a scene that feels true to how kids actually read. As reading corner decor, it gives young readers a picture of themselves: settled in, side by side, turning pages.

Hang this canvas wall art above a bookshelf in a playroom, in a classroom library, or as reading nook wall art beside a cozy chair. It also works as library wall art in a home office or hallway where books live.

The markets of Guadalajara are where I keep going back. I left art school in 2018 and spent two years there just watching colors shift before I felt ready to paint them. Patience came from my father's beehives, along with a feel for how light moves through morning fog.
