About the Artwork

She has pulled her feet up under her and forgotten the rest of the room. Lincoln Fairchild paints a woman in a bottle-green dress folded sideways into a mustard velvet armchair, head bowed over an open book in her lap. The thick, broken strokes of golden ochre behind her feel like late afternoon light coming through a window you can't see.

This is book lover wall art done in Fairchild's vibrant modern impressionist hand. The velvet of the chair is built up in short, textured dabs of gold and amber, the dress falls in heavy olive folds, and her bare foot and the creamy pages catch the brightest touches of light. Nothing is fussy, but every brushstroke has weight.

It's for the reader who loses whole Sundays to a good novel, the friend who always has a paperback in her bag, or anyone who wants a quiet, warm moment on the wall. It makes a thoughtful gift for a book club host or a new homeowner setting up a reading corner.

Hang it above an armchair or a low bookshelf, or let it anchor a reading nook. As canvas wall art it brings warmth to a library, a bedroom, or a cozy den, and it works well as living room canvas wall art beside wood tones, brass lamps, and green or mustard textiles.

Working the Missouri River ferries for eight years taught me to read light on water like a language. The way morning fog lifted off the current, how afternoon sun caught the muddy surface - I started sketching between crossings and never stopped.
